CBT teaches you to apply practical, present-focused strategies to overcome challenges that have been holding you back. It is empowerment focused, to help you gain the self- awareness and skills needed to improve your life and well-being.

What is DBT

What is DBT-Informed Therapy?

Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) is an evidence-based, structured form of cognitive-behavioral therapy initially developed to treat borderline personality disorder (BPD). It is now widely used for a range of mental health conditions, especially those involving emotional dysregulation, relationship challenges and high intensity emotions. DBT-informed therapy uses DBT strategies and skills (like mindfulness, distress tolerance, or emotion regulation tools) while being flexible and specifically tailored to each individual client’s needs and goals.

DBT informed therapy is most suitable in the following situations:

  • When someone doesn’t need or want full model DBT
  • To provide an introduction to DBT or bridge from full model DBT
  • To support skill usage after completing full model DBT or to provide a refresher on skills

If someone has a severe or high-risk condition, full model DBT is typically recommended.
